China’s top diplomat, Wang Yi, has called on Japan to address what Beijing perceives as inappropriate statements and actions by Japanese leaders regarding Taiwan. This appeal was made during a meeting in Beijing with Takeshi Iwaya, the president of the Japan Association for the Promotion of International Trade.
Wang emphasized the need for Japan to take a more objective and rational stance towards China, urging the country to handle historical issues with sensitivity. He underscored the importance of preserving the political foundation of China-Japan relations and learning from historical lessons. Wang advised Japan to focus on peaceful development and to avoid actions that might exacerbate tensions between the two nations.
Iwaya acknowledged the current challenges in Japan-China relations and expressed his organization’s commitment to fostering dialogue and supporting stable bilateral ties. His remarks reflect an understanding of the concerns raised by China and a willingness to work towards improving relations.
