Rupert Grint is set to make a magical return to his iconic role as Ron Weasley in the Broadway production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. This move marks his return to the character over a decade after the Harry Potter film series wrapped up. Grint, who starred alongside Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson in all eight films, will join the stage production for a 17-week engagement starting in February 2027.
The actor expressed his excitement about revisiting the beloved character, stating, “Ron Weasley has been a part of me since I was 11 years old and I can’t wait to meet him again at this stage of life.” He noted that portraying Ron as a father, a role both he and the character now share, adds a new dimension to the experience, while still feeling familiar.
This casting comes on the heels of Tom Felton’s recent portrayal of Draco Malfoy in the same Broadway production. Felton is expected to continue his stint until January. Since its premiere in London in 2016, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has expanded globally, amassing over 14 million ticket sales worldwide. The New York production alone has grossed more than $532 million.
Grint first graced the Broadway stage in 2014 with the comedy It’s Only a Play. In addition to his film roles, his post-Harry Potter career includes performances in Knock at the Cabin, Charlie Countryman, and Nightborn. His upcoming performance in the wizarding world coincides with the development of a new Harry Potter television series for HBO, aimed at introducing the magical universe to a new generation.
