Tesla is responsible for the majority of the recall, with approximately 2.98 million vehicles affected, including imported and locally manufactured Model 3, Model Y, Model S, and Model X models. The recall process is set to commence on September 25.
Regulatory authorities have highlighted the potential difficulty in locating emergency mechanical door-release handles following severe collisions, which could hinder passenger escape or delay rescue operations. To address these issues, affected vehicles may undergo various remedies such as the addition of warning labels, enhanced markings, or updates via over-the-air software.
In addition to Tesla, other significant recalls include 390,000 vehicles from Xiaomi, 371,000 from Leapmotor, and 264,000 from Xpeng. These recalls reflect a broader industry concern over the safety features in vehicles, particularly in emergency situations.
China has increasingly focused on vehicle safety standards, resulting in stricter regulations. By 2027, the country plans to prohibit the use of concealed door handles, underscoring a commitment to improving passenger safety during emergencies and ensuring that escape routes are easily accessible in critical situations.
