Chinese President Xi Jinping has emphasized the importance of ecological conservation and sustainable development during his recent visit to Ulanqab in Inner Mongolia. During his inspection, Xi highlighted critical initiatives such as wetland restoration, biodiversity protection, and the advancement of environmentally friendly computing infrastructure.
While visiting the Huangqihai Lake nature reserve, President Xi reviewed ongoing efforts to restore the lake, which had been at risk of drying up due to climate change and other pressures. He noted the significance of conservation measures that have successfully restored and expanded the lake’s water levels over the years. Xi underscored the necessity of enforcing China’s wetland protection law and maintaining strict ecological protection boundaries, advocating for the prioritization of natural restoration in degraded wetlands with scientific intervention when needed.
In addition to environmental concerns, Xi also visited the Chahar High-Tech Development Zone to evaluate the progress of China’s “East Data, West Computing” initiative. This project aims to enhance the distribution of computing resources across the nation. He stressed the need for the efficient operation of completed projects and the timely completion of ongoing developments, calling on authorities and industry stakeholders to foster efficient, environmentally friendly, and secure computing infrastructure. This, he suggested, would bolster China’s digital economy and support sustainable development.
During his visit, Xi also took the opportunity to review local agricultural and livestock products. He encouraged officials to improve the connection between production and markets, aiming to raise the incomes of farmers and herders in the region.
