China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Southern Theater Command announced that it expelled a Philippine C-208 aircraft from the airspace over Huangyan Dao, an area China claims as its territory. The PLA stated that the aircraft entered this airspace without prior approval from Chinese authorities.
In response to the aircraft’s presence, China’s naval and air forces were mobilized to monitor its movements. The PLA reported that warnings were issued to the Philippine aircraft before it was directed to leave the area. This incident underscores ongoing tensions over territorial claims in the region.
Huangyan Dao, also known as Scarborough Shoal, is a disputed territory in the South China Sea, with both China and the Philippines asserting claims over it. China maintains that the presence of the Philippine aircraft violated its sovereignty and warned that such actions could escalate the risk of unintended maritime or aerial incidents.
The PLA has cautioned the Philippines against what it perceives as provocative actions and emphasized that Chinese forces remain on high alert to safeguard the country’s territorial claims and security interests. This development highlights the persistent friction between China and the Philippines over territorial rights in the South China Sea.
