Chinese President Xi Jinping has advocated for a novel security framework in the Middle East, emphasizing cooperation, dialogue, and the respect for national sovereignty. During a meeting in Cairo with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Xi unveiled a four-point strategy aimed at bolstering regional security cooperation, resolving interconnected conflicts, fostering economic growth, and enhancing international coordination.
Xi underscored the necessity for Middle Eastern countries to assume greater responsibility for their own security while opposing external interference. He highlighted the Palestinian issue as a pivotal factor in mitigating broader regional tensions. Additionally, China expressed its readiness to collaborate with regional nations in safeguarding international shipping lanes, promoting economic progress, and addressing the fundamental causes of conflict. Xi emphasized the importance of the United Nations Charter and international law as critical foundations for addressing regional challenges.
The discussions also placed significant emphasis on enhancing economic ties between China and Egypt. Xi called for deeper cooperation in various sectors, including infrastructure, energy, agriculture, communications, electric vehicles, green energy, aerospace, and the digital economy. China has maintained its position as Egypt’s largest trading partner and primary source of imports for 14 consecutive years, with bilateral trade increasing significantly from $10.21 billion in 2013 to $20.79 billion in 2025.
In a bid to strengthen their comprehensive strategic partnership, the two countries signed over 20 cooperation agreements spanning areas such as artificial intelligence, trade, technology, education, transportation, and industrial supply chains. A joint statement was also issued to further solidify their collaboration in these domains.
