An agreement to establish the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization (WAICO) has been signed by 29 countries in Shanghai. This new independent intergovernmental entity is dedicated to promoting international collaboration in the field of artificial intelligence.
WAICO, which will be headquartered in Shanghai, is set to focus on enhancing global AI governance, fostering international partnerships, and ensuring the development of artificial intelligence is conducted safely, fairly, and responsibly.
Among the founding members are nations such as Kazakhstan, Laos, Pakistan, Russia, Indonesia, and China. The organization will operate in accordance with the principles outlined in the United Nations Charter, advocating a people-centered approach to AI advancement.
The primary goals of WAICO include facilitating cooperation among its member states, improving the global management of AI technologies, and securing the development and application of artificial intelligence in ways that are safe, advantageous, and accessible to benefit humanity overall.
